Help for the club talk
Written for Steve presenting Lawn Bowls with the Como demo club — fictional data, no coaching required. Prefer the Guided tour if someone on the committee has not used the desk before.
Start from Today with Guided tour — start here, or restart with the button above. The tour adapts if a session is already open (“You already have a session — tap Players”) instead of breaking.
Path: Today → start or continue session → Check in 48 → tick Paid when cash is taken at the door → optional lock or Generate draw → Publish → Open TV → Scorer +2 and Undo → Results. About two to three minutes.
- Home. Start the Guided tour if the room does not know the desk. Then: “Saturday used to be paper: names in a book, badges in a hat, cash at the door, scores on cards. This is that day on the desk.” Point at last Saturday’s top five.
- Start session. Today’s date, triples. Entry fee is collected at the door — not charged in the app. Open registration.
- Register. Tap Check in 48 for today for a Tuesday-sized sheet (members and walk-ups). Or last Saturday’s 24 if you want a shorter card. Tick Paid when cash is taken at the door. Tap a row to drop someone.
- Lock two sides. On Draw, tick three names the secretary would keep together — a visiting skip, a couple — and tap Lock this team. Repeat once. Gold lock badge stays put.
- Generate draw. Leave skill balance and avoid last foursome on. Auto-draw fills the other rinks only. Locked sides do not reshuffle.
- Tweak one player. Use Tweak one player on the Draw: pick an unlocked name, pick who they swap with, tap Swap seats. Both teams stay three.
- Publish. Tap Open TV in the header (or on the phone menu). The club TV fills with every rink — no scrolling. Open Scorer on a phone. Tap +2 — the TV updates live. Mark complete, flash Results.
- Stop. “Association export — coming when clubs ask.” Do not invent a Bowling WA portal.
Today
The secretary desk. Shows whether a session is open, how many names are in, last Saturday’s top sides, and shortcuts to register, draw, TV, and scorer.
Players / register
Check people in for today. Default order is A–Z by surname — marking Paid does not move the row. Sort by name, skill, unpaid first, or paid first. Type a first or last name to find a handful. “Check in 48 for today” fills a busy Tuesday. Tick Paid when cash is taken at the door.
Draw
Lock a couple of teams the club already wants together, then Generate draw to fill the rest. After a draw exists you can tap a player to swap rinks or change Lead / Second / Skip. Publish sends the cards to the TV.
Open TV
Club-television view from the header. One screen, no scroll: all rinks and live totals in a 2×2 (or denser) grid. Compact Live badge and last-updated time. Polls the shared store every couple of seconds — you do not wait for Mark complete.
Scorer
Optional phone pad. Pick a rink, tap +1 to +4 for the side that won the end. Undo last end (take back) sits under the totals. Reopen game if you marked complete by mistake. Each tap writes the shared club store. Silent — no pop-up toasts.
Results
Ranked sides after games are marked complete (or after you import a paper total). Association export is not in this demo.
Sponsors
Five well-known WA names with public websites, marked as placeholders. They open so Steve can show a board that isn’t a dead wall of logos.
Stats
Light session / win / shot counts from the seeded Saturday plus anything you complete today. Open Stats from the header (desktop and the menu) or the Light player stats card on Today. Not a pennant record.
Steve — take back / start again. On Scorer, Undo last end (take back) sits under the totals. If you marked complete by mistake, tap Reopen game. To start a fresh social, Delete today’s session on Today (confirm), then start again.
Steve — Open TV, no scroll. Tap Open TV in the header on the club television. Every rink and the live totals sit on one screen. Scorer on the phone; after each end the TV updates without marking the game complete.
Phones off the rink during games if that is house policy. Scorer is optional — large quiet buttons for a marker behind the mat, or type the card in at the office after.
Entry fee is at the door. Collect cash as the club does now. Tick Paid on the register when it is taken. This demo never takes a card payment and does not invent a price.
Como Bowls data is fictional. Names, member IDs and last Saturday’s scores are invented for the walkthrough.
Locked vs open. Lock is explicit; unlock is a separate tap. Re-draw never quietly unlocks a side.
Team size. A swap keeps triples/fours legal. Sitting someone out leaves a short team — the red banner tells you who to add back.
Wrong session? On Today, Delete today’s session — confirm, then start again. History Saturday stays unless you delete that row on History.
Stats is in the header and the phone menu, and on Today as Light player stats.
